Kendall Schmedes hit .348 with 10 kills and added 11 digs to lead the Pasadena City College women’s volleyball team to a sweep over host Glendale College, 25-12, 25-16, 25-20, Friday night.

A redshirt outside hitter, Schmedes (from Maranatha High) finally got to play her first match for the Lancers this season after recovering from an early-season injury. PCC improved to 2-3 overall and won its second straight contest.

“We had a great opportunity to reflect on last weekend’s Pierce tournament, and it was great to see our women implement changes we worked on this week at practice,” said PCC head coach Mike Terrill. “It was excellent to see Kendall shine in her collegiate debut. We played well in transition and Emily Leung made our offense click (33 assists).”

Terrill said Danielle Johnson had a “breakout match” as the freshman middle blocker scored nine kills in just 16 attempts and defended with six blocks (four solos). Libero Grace Crawford added 13 digs and two aces and defensive specialist Kelsey Sarreal had 12 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Vanessa Lopez contributed a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Izzy Hernandez added two kills and four blocks while Pamela Galvan served two aces.

PCC returns to action Sept. 8-9 at the San Diego Mesa Invitational.
