The “Road Warriors” known as the Pasadena City College men’s soccer team continued its 7-game stretch of road contests to start the 2017 season by shutting out host Antelope Valley College, 2-0, on Tuesday.

The Lancers (1-0-1) and the Marauders (2-1) were scoreless after the first 45 minutes before PCC sophomore Yader Rodriguez scored his second goal in as many games this season just three minutes into the second half. Rodriguez attempted a cross from inside the 18-yard box but the AVC goalie intercepted only to lose his grip on the ball as it went in for a 1-0 Lancers lead.

In the 62nd minute, letterman Satchel Robinson raced downfield, dribbled deep into the box, and then perfectly sent a cross to a leaping David Vasquez-Mena who headed in his first goal.

PCC goalie Andrew Espinoza earned his shutout with four saves, including two difficult stops in the first half. Joey Knowles helped control things defensively in front of Espinoza as a center back. Robinson made several runs downfield and five times was able to place cross passes to set up potential scoring chances. In the second half, sophomore stalwarts Pablo Buenrostro and Joshua Arevalo were big factors for the Lancers in the middle of the field.

PCC next plays at last year’s playoff rival Oxnard College on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m.
