Yesenia Marin led four different Lancers with at least three goals as the Pasadena City College women’s water polo team entered the win column in South Coast Conference play, downing LA Trade Tech, 16-5, at the Aquatic Center on Wednesday.

Marin scored four goals for PCC (4-8, 1-5) while Sophia Woods, Jennifer Ortega, and Briana Santos each netted 3-goal hat tricks. The Lancers landed goals in the first minute of all four quarters. Camila Grases added a goal, three assists, had two field blocks and even made a defensive save when PCC goalie Mariah York was whistled for an exclusion.

York moved into the field in the fourth quarter and scored a goal and added an assist. She made three saves in 2-1/2 quarters at her regular netminder position. Christy Lam made two saves as the backup goalie and dished out three assists. Marie Lee started and made four steals.

Genesis Carballo scored four goals for Trade Tech (0-5, 0-5).

“Our offense is vastly improved from previous seasons,” said PCC head coach Terry Stoddard. “We have a number of different players who can fire the ball on goal accurately. It’s been an exhausting stretch for us with seven games in a span of seven days, but we made a nice rebound from our tough loss to Rio Hondo on Monday.”

Both Marin (26 goals) and Santos (25 goals) are shooting 50 percent or better on their attempts.

The Lancers next hosts East Los Angeles College on Wednesday, Oct. 11 in a 3 p.m. game at the Aquatic Center. It is the team’s last home contest of the 2017 season.
