From STAFF REPORTS

It was a certainty that Maranatha would get off the snide Friday when they took on Fillmore on the road.

But not so fast.

The 0-6 Flashes’ got out to a 21-0 lead by hook or by crook.

The Minutemen, though, would go on to score the game’s final 40 points and send Fillmore home with a seventh consecutive loss.

It had an odd feel to the start when Maranatha (5-3, 0-1) punted and had a couple players tap the ball dead.

As players started to go back towards the sidelines or their defensive positions, a Fillmore players picked the ball up and ran it in for a score.

It left players and coaches on the MHS sidelines dumbfounded, because the play was obviously dead.

Awan Parker ran for one score and caught three TD passes from Kwon Peterson.

Peterson threw for nearly 300 yards and four TD passes.

Enrique Garza threw for a fifth Maranatha TD.

Jacob Moreno and Sumner Ortlund both had TD receptions for the Minutemen.

Louie Saenz had a big night on defense all around, including a sack and a key interception.

The offensive line had a solid night in giving Peterson enough time to do his thing.
