Maranatha knew that each member of the team would have to be at their best to have a chance to beat D4’s #2 ranked team. And while there were moments where nearly every player played their best tennis during some parts of the match, they were unable to sustain their play over long periods of time. The opportunities were there to make it a closer match, but the Lady Minutemen weren’t able to take advantage of them when they had the chance. From top to bottom, the Nitros were just a little bit better and a little more consistent.

Today’s match was what MHS needed to prepare for the D5 CIF playoffs, as it has been a long time since they faced good strong play from their opponents. Playing in the weaker Olympic League has made it more difficult to keep sharp.

#1 singles, Angela Hsieh, won two sets, while #2 singles, Malena Smith, won one. On the doubles side, #1 doubles, Maddie Hernandez and Michael Wilkins, and #2 doubles, Reagan Atallah and Aria Haver-Hill, started out strong, winning their opening sets with inspired aggressive doubles play. Neither team could sustain its energy and focus the rest of the way, losing their remaining sets fairly handily.

The Lady Minutemen conclude the regular season tomorrow on Senior Day against Heritage Christian. They will be celebrating the careers of seniors, Angela Hsieh, Reagan Atallah, Madelyn Hernandez, and Hellen Hong.
