After a rough patch of the season that included a 4-game losing streak, the Pasadena City College men’s soccer team has found some consistency of late under interim head coach Gerry Mora. The Lancers are now 2-1-1 since Mora took over the direction of the squad after a 2-0 win at LA Harbor College on Tuesday. The game was a South Coast Conference crossover matchup.

PCC upped its overall record to 4-7-4.

Against Harbor, the game was scoreless until the 62nd minute when Kevin Deagueros brought the ball upfield from his left back position and sent it to Pablo Buenrostro. The freshman forward got past a Seahawks defender and fired a low ball for his fourth goal of the season. Buenrostro is now tied with Yader Rodriguez for the team lead.

With five minutes left, PCC got an insurance goal when reserve goalie Andrew Espinoza punted a long ball that was corraled by Cesar Tanaka, who fired a shot just inside the far post. Espinoza made two saves in playing the entire second half in a combined shutout with Kristopher Gutierrez (two saves).

“We created a lot of scoring chances, but just are not capitalizing enough on the opportunities,” Mora said. “Still, we did a good job of moving players up with Deagueros, Anthony Jimenez and Satchel Robinson. Buenrostro had a great performance and created some other opportunities. I like the the team’s work ethic of late. We’re starting to show some of the talent that we knew we had going into the season. Some of our freshmen are starting to click.”

PCC will host Cerritos College on Friday, Oct. 27 in a 2 p.m. crossover game at Robinson Stadium.
