From STAFF REPORTS

Newport Beach is always a fun place to hang out.

Typically, people go there to vacation or enjoy a day in the sun and the Pacific Ocean.

But for the La Salle girls volleyball program, Tuesday’s trip to Orange County will be all about business.

La Salle will take on Sage Hill after their sweep over Yorba Linda on Saturday evening.

The Lancers earned a 26-24, 25-14 and 25-20 victory in the CIF-SS Division 3 quarterfinals.

La Salle got an incredibly balanced effort.

Tori Ashkinos had 19 assists, 12 digs and 9 kills.

Claire Forrest added 10 kills and 2 blocks.

Sophia Anderson chipped in 6 kills and 10 digs.

Sophomore Vanessa Ramirez finished with 14 blocks.

Sofia Sanchez also contributed 9 kills and a block.

The top-seeded Lancers will get Sage Hill, after the Lightning defeated Saddleback Valley Christian.

On the bottom half of the D3 bracket, Westridge will host Sierra Canyon on Tuesday night.

A Lancers and Tigers victory would set up an all-Pasadena final for the D3 crown.

Quotable:

La Salle coach Tiare Tuitama: “Yorba Linda is a very good team. It was hard to get a ball down on their side. They are not only tall but a very scrappy team. The first game was a challenge for us and woke our side up. Going into second game, we made our adjustments, and tried to capitalize on their main hitters. Due to Yorba Linda’s good defense, it forced us into amazing, long rallies that we were fortunate to win. The coaching staff is very proud of all the girls. They competed their butts off tonight, and we beat a very good team. We were very lucky to have this game at home, the student section support is unreal, and the Lancer fans are great!”
