It’s been a great week for the Mayfield basketball program.
On Monday, the Cubs defeated Edgewood in the Artesia Tournament, 43-21.
The next day, Mayfield took a break from tournament play and took down previously unbeaten Poly, 28-24, in the Prep League opener for both schools.
And that brings us to Wednesday.
Mayfield beat La Puente, 44-23, in the Artesia Tournament.
In the win over Poly, Marguerite Irie led the way with 11 points, and Sarah Tupay added 4 points for the Cubs.
Poly (5-1, 0-1) got 8 points from Kylie Kishi and both Sarah Johnson and Alexis Pappachan chipped in with 7 points apiece for the Panthers.
The next night, Irie again paced the Cubs’ offense with 12 points and 7 rebounds in the 44-23 victory over La Puente.
Katy Tupy finished with 10 points, and Trinity Gomez added 3 points and 4 assists for Mayfield.
The Cubs will face Saddleback at 4:30 Thursday as the tournament continues today.
