From STAFF REPORTS

It seemed Muir was about to go on a major skid after losing in Wednesday’s opener of the Tarkanian Classic.

The Mustangs entered the tournament on a two-game losing streak and hadn’t played in 18 days.

To make matters worse, Muir got thumped in the first round in Vegas, 72-42 to extend the losing streak to three.

But here’s where it gets good.

Simaine Stewart’s boys regrouped and are now on a two-game win streak, and they’ve seemed to figure it out some four hours from home.

They defeated Chaparral, 63-61, Thursday, and today, the Mustangs held off East High of Utah, 52-41, to give the players and their coaches a much-needed shot in the arm.

Hunter Woods led the way with 18 points and 6 rebounds.

Haleem Jenkins finished with 14 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals.

Tiyon Martin added 7 points, 4 assists and 2 steals.

Tasson Aubry pitched in 6 points and Simaine Stewart Junior had 5 points, 5 assists and 2 rebounds.

Muir will face Timpview of Utah on Saturday at noon at Desert Oasis High School.
