If you spent any time following the Muir basketball program this season, it was clear they were built and primed for a deep CIF-SS playoff run.

The Mustangs are loaded with talented and mature seniors, none of whom give a damn who gets the credit for their success, as long as they keep winning.

And winning is what they did again on Friday night.

Muir used a 19-point second-half surge to comfortably defeat visiting La Serna, 72-47, in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 2A playoffs.

It’s their deepest run in nearly a decade.

Hunter Woods led the way with a game-high 24 points, as well as 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots.

Haleem Jenkins scored 14 of his 19 points in that second half that saw the Mustangs pull away from the Lancers.

Jenkins hit five 3-point baskets, and had 3 rebounds and 3 steals.

Tiyon Martin and Tasson Aubry both had double-doubles for Muir.

Martin finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals.

Aubry contributed 12 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots.

Simaine Stewart Junior continued to show courage and stones playing on one bad ankle and then injuring the other.

The senior guard and son of the head coach finished with 6 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.

Muir will travel to Walnut on Tuesday night at 7.

The Mustangs (20-9) defeated Trabuco Hills, 60-43, on Friday night.
