From STAFF REPORTS

It’s likely that late in the season, matches like Friday’s between Poly and Maranatha will serve both programs well.

Maranatha won the first two sets, but Poly claimed two in a row to set up a winner-take-all fifth set.

And while the Minutemen came out on top, it seems likely that both programs got better Friday night.

Maranatha earned the 25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 16-25, 16-14 victory in a nonleague, early-season battle.

Benjamin Samuels led MHS with 16 kills and 4 blocks, and Kyle Brandstater added 12 kills for the Minutemen.

Poly sophomore Nicholas Richard-Craven led the Panthers with 9 kills.

Sophomore Jeffrey Shepherd added 12 digs for Poly.

Matthew Yen led Maranatha with 12 assists.

Maranatha will host Little Rock today (Saturday) at 6, and Poly will travel Tuesday to Ontario Christian at 5.

Records:
Maranatha (1-0); Poly (0-2)
