It was a pretty big day for Poly senior Matt Queen.
The Panthers star went 4 for 4, including a home run.
Queen scored three times and drove in four runs in the Panthers’ 11-5 victory over visiting Flintirdge Prep on Thursday.
But his contributions didn’t stop there.
Queen took over on the mound in the third inning and went five scoreless, allowing just one hit and striking out 6 to earn the victory.
It was the Prep League opener for both schools.
Flintridge Prep actually took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning off Matt Loomis.
The Rebels collected four first-inning walks and Aidan Schraeder homered to get out to the sizable lead.
But that was it for Prep the rest of the way.
Eight of the nine Poly starters had at least one hit on Thursday, including two for Sean McTigue.
Cameron McFarlane tripled and drove in two runs and Sean Tibay doubled and drove in 2.
Franco Alonso had one hit and scored twice from the leadoff spot and Ty Evans had one base hit and scored three times.
Ben Bryson also had a hit and a run scored for the Panthers.
Robbie Case had one hit an an RBI for the Rebels.
Schraeder was saddled with the loss after allowing 8 runs, but only 3 were earned on 9 hits.
Schraeder walked one and struck out 5.
Nick Davis went one inning on the mound for Prep and he surrendered 3 runs on 4 hits. He walked one and struck out two Poly batters.
Poly out-hit Prep, 12-2.
Both schools struggled defensive with 4 errors apiece.
Flintridge Prep isn’t schedule to play again until March 28 when they travel to St. Genevieve.
Poly will host Chadwick on Tuesday at 3:45 in another Prep League contest.
