Accomplishment(s): Dawson Netz and Marco Martinez played just one game this past week, but MHS’s dynamic duo were without question the two most impactful male athletes. One did it with his arm and the other with his bat. Maranatha began its journey to what they hope is an Olympic League title with an 8-0 victory at Whittier Christian on Friday. Despite cold and dark surroundings, Netz lit up the Heralds by throwing a no-hittier, not walking a batter and striking out 13. The junior right hander was a defensive error from throwing a perfect game. As much as Netz was a game changer on the hill, Martinez, the USC commit was with his bat. The 6-foot-1 third baseman hit three home runs Friday and drove in five runs. All three of his blasts came with two strikes and the senior has already surpassed his junior season in home runs through the first 6 games of 2018. He’s also hitting .615, going 8 for 13, and has a team-best 9 RBIs.
