From Staff Reports:

If there’s one thing the La Salle baseball program has proven just eight games into the 2018 season, it’s that they aren’t rattled in late innings.

The Lancers allowed single runs in the sixth and seventh innings at St. Paul, as the Swordsmen tied the game at 2-2.

But La Salle scored three tenth-inning runs and held on for a 5-2 victory.

They are now 3-0 in extra-inning games thus far in 2018.

Zane Lindeman picked up his second win in the last 96 hours by going the final four innings on the mound for the Lancers.

Jeff Daley and Noah Zate both had fifth-inning singles and they scored on a Henry Kavanaugh base hit.

Kavanaugh began the tenth inning with a single, and he moved to third base on an Ethan Patrick base hit.

Kavanaugh would then score on a wild pitch to give La Salle a 3-2 lead.

Brennan Mace, later in the inning, followed with a two-run double that plated Luke Heiberg and Mark Daley, extending the lead to 5-2.

Lindeman would do the rest, as the reigning Pasadena Sports Now Pitcher of the Year went four scoreless innings.

The 6-foot-4 senior didn’t walk anyone and he struck out five St. Paul batters.

Sebastian Garcia, Julian Tellez and Jayden Solorio had two hits each for the Swordsmen.

Landon Smith had another stellar outing for La Salle, going the first four innings.

He didn’t allow a run, gave up one hit and struck out eight St. Paul batters.

AJ Oddo went the first seven innings on the mound for the Swordsmen.

Oddo allowed two runs on six hits and struck out four La Salle batters.

The victory was a nice and early 29th birthday present to first-year Lancers coach Eddie McKiernan.

La Salle will host defending Del Rey League champion Bishop Amat on Friday at 3:15 at Arcadia County Park.
