From Staff Reports:

It’s not much fun playing anything at 9:30 on a Saturday morning.

But if St. Francis had to get up and travel out to Paramount, at least they made the most of it.

Thanks to a solid and combined effort on the mound by Tanner Tomko, Jack Duncan and Hayden Byrnes, the Golden Knights ended their 8-game slide.

Tomko went the first four innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out four to earn the victory.

St. Francis out-hit Paramount by one (7-6) but where it counts most, the Golden Knights headed home with the 6-3 victory.

Christian Muro went 2 for 4, including a double, he scored once and drove in a run.

Mikey Kane had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, and Will Schmidt went 2 for 3, scored once and had two RBIs.

Aaron Treloar singled and scored in the third inning.

Jonathan Largaespada got the loss and his defense didn’t help the Pirates pitcher much.

Largaespada went the first five innings, allowing all six runs, but only one was earned.

He scattered six hits, walked three and struck out six.

Raymundo Medina went 2 for 4, including a double, scored once and drove in a pair of runs for Paramount.

Duncan went a scoreless fifth and sixth innings on the mound for St. Francis.

The freshman allowed one hit, walked two and struck out one Pirates’ batter.

Byrnes gave up one run in the seventh on one hit and a walk, but the senior secured the save.

Byrnes also helped the Golden Knights’ cause with an RBI.

SF’s pitching staff walked four and struck out six, and while that stat is far from eye-popping, it’s a huge move in the right direction for a staff that has had trouble finding the plate early this season.

St. Francis will be back at it Monday, as the Golden Knights face San Pedro (3-8-1) at 12:30 at Paramount High School in a St. Paul Tournament third-round game.

Box Score:
St. Francis: 0-5-1-0-0-0-0-(6)
Paramount: 0-0-2-0-0-0-1-(3)

Win: Tanner Tomko
Loss: Jonathan Largaespada
Save: Hayden Byrnes

Records: St. Francis (2-8); Paramount (4-9)
