La Salle entered the week with a one-game lead over St. Paul for second place in the Del Rey League standings, and they also had a 5-2, 10-inning victory back on March 20 over the Swordsmen.

Times have changed, though.

St. Paul earned a 1-0 victory over the Lancers on Tuesday with an unearned run, and the Swordsmen pushed across a seventh-inning run off La Salle reliever James Barnard to earn the two game sweep this week, 3-2.

St. Paul is now one-game ahead of La Salle with two weeks to play.

Landon Smith went the first six innings for La Salle and allowed two runs on five hits.

Smith walked four and struck out six on 102 pitches.

Barnard lasted 2/3 of an inning, allowing a hit and two walks.

Angel Fierros went the first five innings for St. Paul and he too allowed two runs on five hits.

Fierros walked one and struck out two.

AJ Oddo got the victory after two scoreless for the Swordsmen, and he didn’t allow a hit and didn’t walk a batter.

Oddo struck out a pair of La Salle batters.

Brennan Mace had two of La Salle’s five hits, scored once and had an RBI.

Victor Scalzo also went 2 for 3 and had an RBI.

Jeremy Jara had one hit and drove in a pair of runs for St. Paul.

La Salle will battle Alhambra Saturday and then take on first-place Bishop Amat twice next week.
