No one at Poly will tell you this, and statistically they haven’t officially wrapped up another Prep League championship, but they’ve earned another Prep League championship.

The Panthers got the season sweep of second-place Rio Hondo Prep on Friday in a 9-3 victory.

In the three wins over the Kares in 2018, the Poly margin of victory was 29-3 and they have bolted out to a 7-0 record in league with five Prep League games.

Their remaining five Prep League games come against teams with a combined league mark of 4-12.

Matt Queen went five scoreless to get the win on the mound.

Queen allowed five hits, walked three and struck out five along the way.

RHP rallied for three unearned runs in the final two innings, but Franco Alonso closed the door on the Kares with two strikeouts in the seventh.

Mikey Tsogt, Jake Lang an Bryant Flores had two hits apiece for Rio Hondo Prep.

Eight separate Poly players had at least one hit, but it was Alonso that le the way with two hits and two runs scored.

Cameron McFarlane and Sean McTigue both had a pair of RBIs for the Panthers.

Poly will play at Dunn a week from Saturday (April 28) at Noon.
