It wasn’t going to be dramatic, but Poly officially wrapped up another Prep League title Saturday night.

With two league games left to play and a three-game lead in the loss column over second-place Rio Hondo Prep, the Panthers needed just one more win.

And they got it against their rivals.

Poly got six innings from Matt Queen, who allowed an unearned run, and defeated Flintridge Prep, 7-4, at the Glendale Sports Complex.

Queen scattered four hits, walked four and struck out five to improve to 8-1 on the season.

After Prep rallied for three runs off Sean McTigue in the seventh inning, Franco Alonso came in and struck out the Rebels’ batter to close out the win.

McTigue went 2 for 3 at the plate and scored twice.

Ben Bryson also had two hits and scored a pair of runs.

Ty Evans finished 2 for 3 and had an RBI, and Alonso had one hit and an RBI.

David Mathias walked twice and scored a pair of runs.

Poly has three games left before entering the CIF playoffs as likely the top seed in the Division 6 bracket.

The Panthers face off with Salesian, Chadwick and Firebaugh on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

Prep finishes out their regular season with a pair of games with second place Rio Hondo Prep.
