With one big swing of the bat in the first inning, La Salle catcher Brennen Mace set the tone for the Lancers in their first round, CIF-SS Division 3 playoff game on Friday.

Mace hit a three-run shot to give the Lancers a 4-0, first-inning lead, and Zane Lindeman did the rest.

Lindeman went all seven innings and scattered eight hits and three runs to get the victory.

The 6-foot-4 senior walked one and struck out six, but it was his ability to get out of a sixth-inning jam that stands out most.

Charter Oak had just scored a pair of runs to pull within 5-3 with two outs.

But Lindeman picked off a Charter Oak base runner off second base and after shortstop Ethan Patrick applied the tag to end the inning, you could see that look in Lindeman’s eyes like, “that was your chance.”

He came out and got the Chargers in order in the seventh inning to secure the win on 91 pitches.

Lindeman’s one walk on Friday is just his fifth of the entire season.

Lindeman earned his 22nd career victory against just seven losses.

Mace finished with two hits and the three RBIs.

His play behind the plate and with a bat in his hands has been nothing short of impressive.

Patrick had two hits, scored once, and had an RBI, and the slick-fielding shortstop was solid up the middle for Lindeman.

Nicholas Acedo got he loss after allowing five runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Acedo walked one and struck out three, but it was the four-run first inning that did in the long-haired right hander.

Henry Kavanaugh had two hits, including a double and one run scored from the leadoff spot.

La Salle will host Temecula Valley on Tuesday.

Landon Smith (4-1, 1.73 ERA) will get the start for La Salle.

The Golden Bears (24-5) defeated Valley View, 6-2, in their first-round Division 3 playoff game Friday.
