Accomplishment(s): Downing and Queen both earned victories Saturday afternoon in the CIF-SS Division 3 and Division 6 title games, respectively. Downing entered the game with one out in the first inning, Maranatha trailing 2-0 and La Salle had runners on first and second base. The junior right hander set down each of the 10 batters he faced in MHS’ 4-2 victory over La Salle in the D3 finals at Cal State Fullerton, and handed the ball to Dawson Netz to close out the championship. Queen won an area-best fourth postseason game of 2018 by going six scoreless innings to lead Poly to a 6-1 victory over Moreno Valley at UC Riverside. Queen struck out five batters and improved his personal record this season to 12-1. The Panthers earned a D6 championship behind the star lefty.
