Caltech men’s track & field and men’s swimming & diving senior Alex Bourzutschky (Potomac, Md. / Montgomery Blair) has been named CoSIDA Academic All-District for a second year in a row, earning at-large recognition.

Complete List

As one of just two SCIAC honorees to earn at-large recognition, Bourzutschky again will advance to the All-America ballot after last year joining former cross country/track & field star Aditya Bhagavathi (BS ’16), water polo record-holder Chris Bradley (BS ’17) and former track & field standout Jeremy Leibs (BS ’06) as the Beavers’ only Academic All-America honorees.

A two-sport scholar-athlete, Bourzutschky made the move from diving to full-time swimming in the pool and ended his track & field career with a bang, surpassing his top time in the 200m dash he previously set during his freshman campaign. The physics major also recently was named Caltech Male Scholar Athlete of the Year at the 2018 Athletic Celebration.

CoSIDA recognizes student-athletes from each of the four NCAA divisions for their combined athletic and academic performance. The honor is one of the most prestigious in collegiate athletics. Nominees must have at least a 3.3 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore status athletically and have been at the nominating institution at least one calendar year.
