From STAFF REPORTS

It took Blair over 1,200 days for their football program to get back into the win column after a late September victory in 2014 at the California Military Institute.

After last week’s 37-16 victory at La Verne Lutheran, which snapped a 32-game losing streak, cynics might have wondered if that was a fluke.

But Blair, its players and coaches proved any doubters wrong.

The Vikings won their second game in six days.

They drove 115 miles to Maricopa and defeated the Indians, 15-6, on Friday night.

Ajani Joseph scored on a 45-yard run and German Jara sprinted in from 20 yards out in the first quarter to take an early 15-0 lead.

Jara converted on a 2-point run and Miguel Salcedo booted the extra-point attempt after Joseph’s score.

Maricopa got on the board in the third quarter, but after failing on their extra-point attempt, the Vikings defense held the Indians scoreless the rest of the way.

Erin Davis, Sebastian Menchaca and Jason Magzul led the defensive stand all game Friday.

It’s their first back-to-back wins since September of 2014.

The Vikings will travel to Santa Monica next Friday to take on Lighthouse Christian at 7.

Quotable:

Blair coach Erick Pineda: “They played hard for one of the team captains who couldn’t be present in the (La Verne) Lutheran game (last week) because his mom told him to be part of a 15-year old ceremony. He has been through it all at Blair from his freshman year to now. He had not won a game at all until tonight. He’s a junior now. He won his first game at Blair and his birthday was yesterday. His teammates gave him a great 16th birthday gift.”

Box Score:
Blair: 15-0-0-0-(15)
Maricopa: 0-0-6-0-(6)

Records: Blair (2-2); Maricopa (0-2)
