From STAFF REPORTS

A short-handed Marshall team was swept Monday afternoon in Claremont.

The Webb Schools earned the 25-19, 25-19 and 25-9 nonleague victory.

Sophomore setter Malia Wilson finished with 9 assists, 6 digs, and 1 ace.

Senior outside hitter Risejah Velasco had 7 digs and 6 kills.

Junior libero Emily Plasencia contributed 6 digs.

Sophomore opposite hitter Bora Lim added 2 kills and 3 assists.

Junior middle blocker Lilah Fontenot contributed 2 blocks and 2 aces.

Marshall is now 7-10 overall and 2-3 in Mission Valley League play, and the Eagles will travel to Arroyo on Wednesday as league play resumes.

Quotable:

Marshall Coach Sang Lee Quote: “We were missing our starting outside hitter and middle blocker, but we should have still played a lot better. We didn’t battle in the third set and essentially gave the match away. There were too many miscues on our end and there’s no excuse for that. We beat Webb earlier in the year, but they got their revenge. They played a very good volleyball match. We have some soul searching to do.”

Marshall captain Lilah Fontenot: “We definitely had our moments where we played well and fought really hard, but I think that overall we definitely could have played better. Moving forward, we definitely need to work on our communication and teamwork, and take some time to focus on the basics.”

Records: Marshall (7-10); The Webb Schools (7-8)
