From Staff Reports:

It was no surprise Monday afternoon that La Salle star golfer Makenna Hicks qualified for the Del Rey League finals.

But to have all six golfers earn a spot for the next round had La Salle girls golf coach Steve Haderlein a very happy man.

Hicks shot an amazing 39 on Monday at Harding Golf Course at Griffith Park.

The senior was 13 strokes better than her next closes teammate, but she was just as happy for her fellow Lancers as she was for herself.

Vicky Wang and Josephine Lo both finished with a 52.

Sophie Woodman shot a 55 and Kayla Mena a 57.

Ahtziri Rios-Aguirre was sixth among La Salle players and finished with a 59.

Each will compete on Thursday at the Del Rey League finals, and with the hopes of earning a CIF-SS spot.

It was a solid effort for La Salle, especially considering they were coming off a disappointing Del Rey League team title match with Bishop Amat last week, and had to settle for second place.

But each time the Lancers had a setback this season, they answered back and persevered.

Quotable:

La Salle coach Steve Haderlein: “It was great for the kids to bounce back and play well. Having all six of our players qualify is great. Makenna broke 40 and everyone was under 60.”
