The only thing more disappointing for the Pasadena High School football program than leaving Beaumont Friday evening with their season being over, was the way in which it happened.

PHS, which led much of the way, regained the advantage late, 17-14, with less than a minute to play.

The Bulldogs’ senior quarterback, Andreas Solling, connected with Malachi Langley on a short TD pass, and PHS seemed to be just a defensive stand away from a date in the CIF-SS Division 11 semifinal round next week.

But to their chagrin, Beaumont quarterback Devin Dillard had lengthy, late-game connections with Jayden Fordham and Brennen Jenkins, to claim the 20-17 victory.

Jenkyns’ TD reception came with just 15 ticks left, and was the difference.

Solling threw for north of 250 yards through the air and Langley broke the 100-yard mark rushing on 29 carries.

When players and coaches look back this heartbreaking defeat, they will regret the number of penalties and the enormous impact it had in PHS falling just short Friday night.

Fernando Simental booted a 36-yard field goal Friday night and was pretty clutch in the postseason for the Bulldogs.

PHS was also without a key offensive threat on offense, because of a first-round ejection last week.

Quotable:

Pasadena quarterback Andreas Solling: “I thought that we had control if this game throughout, and to be honest, I think we should have won the game. It’s a very tough loss, but we feel like we beat ourselves (penalties, mistakes). This hurts more than you could imagine. But at the end of the day, I got a family out of this. I love each and every coach and player on this team, and I hope they are lifelong relationships. We not only got to the playoffs, and won a postseason game, we did things that no other Pasadena (football) team had done in a while, and certainly had far more success than anyone outside of the program predicted that we’d have this year. And I can’t tell you how proud that makes me. I am excited to see what the future holds for my teammates and myself.”

Box Score:
Pasadena: 7-3-0-7-(17)
Beaumont: 7-0-7-6-(20)

Records: Pasadena (6-6); Beaumont (8-4)
