Kayla Lund has already committed to play for the Univ. of Pittsburgh and thrilled to be a future Panther.

Area coaches have said the Flintridge Sacred Heart senior is arguably the greater Pasadena area’s premiere player.

But if we’re to see Lund play much more in Southern California, Flintridge Sacred Heart will have to win their final two Mission League games to earn a playoff berth.

The Tologs were dominanted Thursday, losing in straight sets, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-15 to a Marymount team that is now 18-3 overall and 5-0 in league.

Lund had 7 kills, 9 assists and 14 digs for FSHA, and Ellis DeJardin led the Tologs with 11 kills and 12 assists.

“They (Marymount) played well and competed and we didn’t execute and let them go on too many runs,” Lund said. “Last year, we got in the playoffs and lost in the first round. I really want us to get back in and see what we can do. But we have to win some matches.”

FSHA (13-5, 3-3) also got 10 digs from Maddie Pernecky.

“Marymount always plays steady and we didn’t take care of the ball,” Tologs coach Ernest Banaag said. “Every year you come into the season and you want to win league. We’re not going to this year, but we’ll have to finish strong to make the playoffs.”

Marymount was led by Devon Newberry, who had 13 kills, 11 digs and 4 blocks, while Grace Frohling added 10 kills.

They’re outside hitter (Lund) can get hot at any time and it’s not over until it’s over when she’s out on the court,” Sailors’ coach Cari Klein said. “I think we served harder and played pretty well.”
