Maranatha has had an up-and-down season, with much of it due to injuries and a lack of depth in its roster.

After starting with a tie and two losses, the Minutemen won two consecutive games.

But last Friday’s 35-3 setback at the hands of Village Christian make Friday a near must-win if Maranatha wants to qualify for the CIF-Southern Section playoffs.

Maranatha (2-3-1, 0-1) could take a big step towards a possible postseason berth with a win over Whittier Christian (4-3, 0-1) on Friday at Whittier College.

As always, Kwon Peterson, the Minutemen quarterback will have as big an impact as anyone on Friday.

When given time, Peterson is a competent passer and he’s always been lethal with his legs.

This could be the highest scoring game of the year for Maranatha if Whittier Christian’s recent history is any indication.

Whittier Christian has allowed 70 and 65 points in its last two games, and in both losses, the Heralds have scored 49 points.

Olympic League Standings:

Village Christian (5-1 overall, 1-0 in league)
Heritage Christian (5-2, 1-0)
Valley Christian (4-2, 0-0)
Whittier Christian (4-3, 0-1)
Maranatha (2-3-1, 0-1)
