Under first-year head coach Mike Terrill, the Pasadena City College women’s volleyball team has made aggressive serving a significant part of its offensive arsenal. That was never more evident than Friday night when Michelle Boyd served up nine of the Lancers’ 15 aces in a 4-set win at Cerritos, 25-15, 25-12, 20-25, 25-22. The match was a South Coast Conference crossover meeting.

The Lancers (11-6 overall) are averaging 11 aces per match. It’s the 11th time that PCC reached double digits in aces and the fifth occasion the team totaled its season high at 15. Boyd, a sophomore libero who also recorded a team high with 20 digs, also matched the team individual high set first by Monica Hernandez (nine aces) v. Cerro Coso on Sept. 10.

PCC also picked up 12 team blocks, including 8 assisted blocks by Chyna Peeler. Rayleen Rivera added 13 kills and nine digs while Paige Clingaman scored 11 kills. Setter Emily Leung was on target with 36 assists, seven digs, and and four block assists.

On Wednesday, Oct. 19, the Lancers travel to face SCC South Division leader and state No. 10 El Camino College. Game time for the conference crossover is 6 p.m.
