There is good news and bad news for the Maranatha girls volleyball program as the season winds down.

The bad news: Cerritos Valley Christian earned the Olympic League title by defeating Maranatha, 25-10, 25-21 and 25-23 on Thursday.

The good news: Maranatha can still earn a second-place slot with a win over Village Christian and potentially get a first-round playoff game at home.

On Thursday, Mikaela Ashworth and Hannah Beckler led the Minutemen with 7 kills apiece.

Maranatha can get that No. 2 spot with a win Tuesday when Village Christian comes to Pasadena for a 6:15 match up in the regular season finale.

“I didn’t properly prepare our team to compete tonight and it showed in our performance,” Maranatha coach Eli Cuenca said. “Congrats to VC on an Olympic League title.”

Olympic League Standings:
Cerritos Valley Christian (16-12 overall, 7-0 in league)
Maranatha (15-7, 4-3)
Village Christian (14-11, 3-3)
Whittier Christian (12-14, 3-4)
Heritage Christian (9-17-1, 0-7)
