In a night that was supposed to be a ‘battle of the Bulldogs,’ Burbank showed who the top dogs are.

Burbank spoiled Pasadena’s senior night, routing the opposing Bulldogs, 40-7, in a Pacific League contest.

Guy Gibbs, the Burbank quarterback, threw a pair of TD passes.

Gibbs connected with Jake Kelley on a 61-yard TD strike, and then, on his next pass, hit Forest Fajardo on a 27-yard score.

Gibbs finished with 216 yards on 11 of 25, and the two scores. Randy Santellan picked off Gibbs for Pasadena.

Pasadena (1-7 overall, 1-4 in league) scored its lone points on the evening on the opening kickoff, when Jalen Jolley took it back 94 yards untouched for the score.

But it was Burbank (6-2, 5-0) who owned the rest of the night.

“It was a team effort,” Burbank coach Richard Broussard said. “Our defense got us going, we started off slow, but figured it out. It was a great team effort.”

Charlie Andrade had a pair of 35-yard field goals for Burbank.

Pasadena held a 7-6 lead into the second quarter with 9:31 left in the half.

Jolley, who also plays quarterback and defensive end, was set to punt from the Pasadena 17-yard line.

Burbank, though, blocked the punt, and Drew Pendelton picked it up the end zone for a touchdown.

Seconds later, on a bad exchange with the running back, Burbank recovered a fumble that set up Darnell Williams’ 5-yard TD run.

Jalen Jolley ran for a team-best 85 yards for Pasadena.

“We have to work on our mental toughness,” first-year Pasadena coach DeJuan Shamburger said. “Other than that, we have a great group of kids, and have to put all the pieces together.”
