It seemed like the magical Westridge season was over when the Tigers lost in 4 games at top-ranked Elsinore in the semifinals of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs last Tuesday.

A semifinal spot, though, receives an automatic state bid.

But the Tigers semifinal loss meant they not only had a road game, it was going to be a pretty significant drive.

And while 113 miles on a bus each way is inconvenient, Westridge make the ride worthwhile.

Westridge (26-6) dropped the first two sets, and its season was only 25 points from officially being over.

Allison Martinez and the Tigers, however, were not going down without a fight.

A fight it was.

Westridge came back and defeated Ramona, 21-25, 14-25, 25-20, 25-22 and 15-11 in the CIF State Division 2 playoffs on Wednesday night.

The Tigers will travel to Claremont on Saturday at 7.

The Wolfpack (21-8) took out Sage Hill in 5 games on Tuesday to set up Saturday’s showdown with the Tigers.

Martinez continued her remarkable junior year with 34 kills and 16 digs.

Makana Meyer added 12 kills and 10 digs.

Angelica Raymundo paced the Tigers with 49 assists.

Allison Martinez: “We have demonstrated a lot of heart and grit this season. After our loss to Elsinore, we knew we needed to get back in the gym and work hard if we wanted to take out a high seed and continue in state. (The Elsinore loss) served as a wake-up call and reminded us to stay resilient and have energy all the way through the fifth set.”
