Senior Kate Lewis (San Antonio, Texas / Ronald Reagan) has a new honor to go with her recent ascension into the women’s basketball team’s 1,000-point club. The SCIAC named Lewis Athlete of the Week for the third time in her Caltech career on Monday.

Lewis entered the Caltech record books over the weekend when she picked up her 25th-career double-double and joined Stephanie Wong ’16 and Lindsay King ’08 as just the third 1,000-point scorer in program history. The Beavers’ star forward/center currently leads the team with 14.0 point per game and is yet to score under 10 points in any game this season. Consistency has been key for the senior leader.

Already the program-record holder for career double-doubles (25), Saturday’s game at Whittier College might just be the beginning of a series of milestones for Lewis in her final season with the Beavers. With the 1,000-point mark now behind her, Lewis could also push for one or both of Wong’s program points record (1,333) and Lisa Yee ’10’s rebounding record (793), the latter of which she is currently on pace to surpass.

Lewis also earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors as a sophomore when she averaged 19.0 points over a single week and as a freshman when she posted a 16-point, 16-rebound stat line against Crown College, identical to the final line in her milestone game against Whittier. Both Athlete of the Week distinctions came during the same week in 2014 and 2013.
