Sophomores Andrew Wang (Germantown, Md. / Poolesville) and Brent Cahill (Laguna Beach, Calif. / St. Margaret’s) led the Caltech scoring charge in the Beavers’ Monday home loss to Carthage College. While Wang got the start, Cahill provided the Beavers with some needed energy off the bench.

Both players led the team with 12 points and both shared the distinction of scoring points from the free throw line. Wang, who is among the team’s top free throw shooters went 5-for-6 from the line while Cahill went 3-for-5. As a team, the Beavers shot more free throws than they have all season.

Wang was the more selective of the two shooters, as he made three of his four shot attempts and also sunk his only three-point attempt of the game. Cahill, however was the more active of the two beneath the glass, picking up five rebounds.

Monday’s game was also an opportunity for senior big man Nasser Al-Rayes (Doha, Qatar / American School of Doha) to reestablish himself as a dominant force in the low post. The center came finished with nine points and nine rebounds, one away in each category from a double-double. He also blocked four shots as he continues to lead the SCIAC in that category. After the Beavers ended the first half trailing 32-25, they ultimately could not keep up with the Carthage scoring pace and fell further behind in the second half.

Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger and the Beavers will next host Colorado College for a 3 p.m. game on Dec. 29 in their final game before the new year.
