St. Francis was hoping to ride the momentum of last week’s Nogales Tournament championship when it hosted Crespi in the Mission League opener for both schools.

Crespi came in with a 6-9 record, but the Celts were consistent all game and used 15 points from Russ Strong to outlast the Golden Knights, 57-51.

St. Francis (9-4 overall, 0-1 in league) got 21 points from Joey Walsh, as the lefty had a pair of 3-point baskets and went 7 of 9 from the free-throw line.

Malakhi Jensen added 16 for the Golden Knights, but the drop off after Walsh and Jensen was rather noticeable.

The next highest scorer for St. Francis was Tomas Seager’s 5 points.

Crespi, in contrast, had five players with at least 7 points.

Kyle Owens scored 12 points, Billy Oxley 11, Devon Rojo 8 and Robert Hunter had 7.

Lucas Shin and Omari Moore had four each for the Golden Knights.

St. Francis will travel to Harvard-Westlake Friday night as the Golden Knights will try and earn their first Mission League victory.
