No one likes to get up on a Saturday morning to play a 9 a.m. game.

But if you’re going to do it, you might as well win.

Flintridge Prep opened the all-day So Cal Shootout at Azusa Pacific University in impressive fashion.

The Rebels got a balanced effort and took down Alta Loma, 67-53.

Jake Althouse continues to lead the offense.

Althouse scored a game-high 25 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked three shots.

“I would say today was definitely one of our best performances, especially in the face of the early morning game,” Althouse said. “We had a balanced offensive attack and that started with playing with a lot of confidence. We came out strong and with energy, which helped against the early start time. I know my role on this team is to be our outside scoring presence and to get rebounds. I think I did a good job on both of those things today., while still getting my teammates involved. It was a great team win overall, and I think it built some momentum going back into league play.”

Senior guard Kendall Kikkawa added 13 points, had 8 rebounds and dished out 7 assists.

“It was a great experience playing in a college gym,” Kikkawa said. “We executed our stuff, and were able to use the long court to our advantage by getting transition points. Getting this win against a solid team was great for us, and gives us lots of momentum going into this next week. This is a very important week with three league games ahead, and I’m confident that we will have a great week if we continue to play like we have lately.”

Jonny Samuels got in on the fun, with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

Cameron Wu chipped in with 6 rebounds, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

The win and signs of a fluid offense come at a very advantageous time for the Rebels.

Prep (7-7 overall, 2-1 in league) play a trio of road games this coming
week.

They travel to Firebaugh on Tuesday at 7, go to Poly on Wednesday at 6:30
and finish the week at Rio Hondo Prep, with a tip time of
7:30.

Prep League Standings:
Poly (12-3 overall, 3-0 in league)
Chadwick (10-10, 3-1)
Flintridge Prep (7-7, 2-1)
Rio Hondo Prep (8-11, 1-4)
