It’s 4 p.m. on Saturday, and Myles Cecil and his father Bruce are making the 370-mile drive home from the Oakland Coliseum.

Cecil spent the last 72 hours in Northern California, but heads back to Pasadena as the Defensive MVP of the Blue-Grey All-American football game on national television, and in front of scouts and coaches from all over the nation.

Cecil, the Pasadena Sports Now Defensive Player of the Year, was also named a team captain.

Cecil was selected to the game over two months ago, while others had to try out through a combine.

The Lancers senior led the area with 14 sacks and led La Salle with 90 tackles.

“The experience was a one-of-a-kind true blessing,” Cecil said. “I got to work with and go up against some of the best offensive lineman in all of the country. What stood out most was going to the Oakland Coliseum and just soaking in the moment and thinking of the greats that have stepped on the field and all of the great plays I had seen made on those very hash marks. It sent chills down my Raider-loving spine.”

In the not too distant future, Cecil will make one coach happy and proud when he makes his decision where he is going to continue his football career.

Pasadena Sports Now will report on Cecil’s decision and get reaction from La Salle as soon as he makes his announcement.

Quotables:

La Salle football coach Russell Gordon:  “We couldn’t be more proud of Myles and his success, I’ve always told him that his hard work would reap rewards and that’s what’s happening. He represents our school, our program, his family and himself in such an honorable way. I really feel like he’s one of the best defensive players in high school football.”

La Salle Athletic Director Anthony Harris: “I am proud to have a student-athlete like Myles Cecil. He is the definition of a La Salle student-athlete. He is a great student, with compassion, as well as a phenomenal football player with a relentless drive! He is going to be successful in life at whatever he decides to do, because of his work ethic. He made Lancer Nation proud today!”
