It’s been at least three weeks since the Poly boys basketball program was really tested on the court.

Over the past week, the only testing coach Brad Hall’s boys have done is in the classroom during finals week.

While they were not going to get a real challenge from hapless Firebaugh, Poly got back in the swings of things Saturday night.

The Panthers shed off the Falcons, 70-55, in a Prep League contest, and they remain in first place.

Ryan Bowen continued his stellar senior season with 26 points.

The Panthers remain unbeaten in league and perhaps get their first challenge on Wednesday when they host Flintridge Prep at 6:30.

“Tonight’s game, I felt incredibly focused and relaxed,” Bowen said. “After a week’s worth of practice, I was able to break down my own personal goals regarding defense and shooting, and I think that I executed them pretty well during tonight’s game. As for the rest of league play, continuing with Flintridge next week, I’m excited to play against them. We’ve been very strong as of late, and we know what we need to touch up on for next week’s game and the rest of the season. Overall, I think that our performance has been incredible, and from our energy and intensity tonight, we have definitely shown improvement of our game from the beginning of the season.”

John Genske has been consistent all year and poured in 13 points, along with 15 rebounds and 7 assists.

Junior guard Jackson Hayes had 9 points.

“We are very excited to get back out on the court for a couple of fun games next week,” Hayes said. “We only had one games this week, so everyone is ready to get back on the court to finish strong for the last stretch of league games.”
