La Salle’s first big test of the season did not go well on Tuesday night.

Both the Lancers and the Guards (16-3, 5-0) headed into their Santa Fe League showdown with a 4-0 record in league play.

But it was Bell-Jeff that looked like the favorites to win a championship.

The Guards took a 12-point lead after one period and they outscored the Lancers in each of the four quarters.

Bell-Jeff easily snatched the first of two matchups with La Salle, 65-40.

La Salle will get another shot in the regular season finale when it hosts Bell-Jeff on Feb. 9 at 7.

As for Tuesday, Julia Macabuhay, despite a slow start, finished with a team-high 19 points.

Alyssa Arroyo hit three 3-point baskets and finished with 10 points.

Nicole Ortiz finished with 4, Grace Fallar 3, and Jennifer Payne had 2.

La Salle will look to get back on track at last-place Pomona Catholic (0-5 in league) on Friday at 6:30
