From Staff Reports

Andrew Lathrop’s second-half goal on a free-kick from 40 yards out with 12 minutes to play led Flintridge Prep to a much-needed, 1-0 win over then-first place Firebaugh on Monday.

The Falcons had defeated the Rebels, 3-1, back on Jan. 6, but with the win, Flintridge Prep controls its own destiny.

The junior’s goal was his fourth of the season, and he leads the Rebels with 7 assists.

“It was pretty exciting,” Lathrop said. “When I saw the ball go in the goal, I was kind of surprised, because I wasn’t expecting anything to come out of it. I knew this was a big game for us. We were excited all day and wanted to keep our season alive.”

It looked as though the best Prep was going to be able to get was a tie, but magic struck late.

“We were knocking on the door all game long and knew that we were going to break through at some point,” Prep coach AJ Yates said. “Freshman Jason Kreinberg filled in admirably at midfield for Freshman Nick Klatsky who was sick today. Aidan Schraeder had his best game of the year in goal. Tim Treinen and Andrew Lathrop continue to show why they are both returning All-CIF players. Spencer Harris and Aidan Boyle lead a defense that has allowed just 10 goals all season long.”

Aidan Schraeder had 7 big saves in goal for Prep.

The Rebels will travel to Poly on Thursday at 3:30, and then finish the regular season at home with the Panthers next Tuesday at 6:30.
