Freshman Jamie Hammon launched a 2-out, RBI double to the right-center gap to give the Pasadena City College softball team a 3-2 win in eight innings at Saddleback Monday night. Brenda Rivas singled, stole second and scored the game-winning run.

The Lancers (1-1) trailed 2-0 but clawed back on an Alex Howard RBI groundout in the third inning. They tied it in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Amber Ingram. Howard singled, stole second and scored the tying run.

PCC pitching ace Pica Madrid (1-0) twirled all eight innings, allowing only six hits and no earned runs for the circle victory. The sophomore faced 35 batters in all, retiring 24. She outdueled Saddleback’s Nelsa Delagente, who also pitched all eight innings, allowing nine hits, no walks and striking out six. Shortstop Karina Moreno had a big game, going 3-for-4 with a double.

On Jan. 27, PCC lost its ’17 season opener at Antelope Valley College, 5-3, in a game called after 5-1/2 innings due to darkness. Howard, the team’s second baseman, went 1-for-2 with a RBI double, a walk and a steal. Rightfielder Alise Archuleta also drove in a run with a base hit in the sixth. AVC scored three runs in the fifth to break a 2-2 tie.

“I like the way we fought back against Saddleback,” said PCC head coach Monica Tantlinger. “Pica pitched her heart out and kept us in the game. Hammon came up with a clutch hit, especially for a freshman. It was good for the team to have a happy drive home from Mission Viejo. We did not want to be 0-2 after two games”

On Thursday, Feb. 2, the Lancers begin their home schedule with a 2:30 p.m. game against Moorpark. All PCC home games are at off-campus Robinson Park, located at 1081 N. Fair Oaks Avenue, Pasadena.
