From Staff Reports

It wasn’t the smooth, hot-shooting victory that Pasadena has counted on and enjoyed so much recently.

But despite poor shooting and a slow start, Pasadena won its 13th straight game when they defeated visiting Burbank, 71-54, on Wednesday night in a Prep League affair.

The Bulldogs’ ‘Big 3’ of Bryce Hamilton, Darius Brown II, and Darius Mason were just 19 of 48 from the field.

Hamilton finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds on 10 of 25 shooting.

Brown II had a rare off-night in terms of accuracy (4 of 13) but he still finished with 16 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

Mason was the only member of that trio that shot at the .500 mark.

Mason was 5 of 10 from the field, and finished with 15 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

The win earned Pasadena of at least a share of its 13th-straight Pacific League title.

The Bulldogs, will, without question, win the outright title officially on Friday, when they travel to Hoover at 7.

Jesse Watkins added 8 points and 3 rebounds for Pasadena (18-5, 10-0).

Pasadena Coach Tony Brooks: “Make no mistake, Burbank is a very good team with a very good resume of teams they have defeated. We knew this would not be a game that we would waltz through. On top of a good opponent, we did struggle from the field and missed shot that we normally make. Our guys just grounded away a finally found a rhythm and was able to extend the score enough to settle in a bit. Not every game in a very long season is going to go as planned and you have to find away to get the win, and I thought we did that tonight.”
