From Staff Reports

Poly coach Ryan Katsuyama breaks down Poly’s CIF-Southern Section Division 5 bracket.

“Needless to say, we are looking forward to the upcoming playoffs, but we are proceeding with caution. With the way CIF did the realignment, all the teams in D5 are relatively equal on paper (at least heading into the season). Some teams improve with added freshmen and a host of returning players (like us) while other teams slip a little due to key players graduating.

I’ve taken a look at all the teams we could possibly play and there isn’t an opponent in the bracket that makes me say, “We’ll beat them with ease.”

Each game will be a battle and I’m hoping our girls will be focused on the opponent in front of us versus thinking about who we will play in the Championship game. To me, the #1 seed is just a place in the bracket. We must come out strong and play hard for a full 4 quarters for it to mean anything at the end.

Our first playoff game will be on Wednesday at Poly. The game time has yet to be determined, but we will be contacting both Moorpark and Cypress to see if we can start at 3:30 or 3:45. Since we don’t have lights at our pool, we’ll need to get the game in under natural light.”
