Freshman Connor Soohoo (Redwood Shores, Calif. / Crystal Springs) has been named the SCIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon.

Soohoo played an integral role in the Beavers’ 7-6 come-from-behind victory over West Region No. 16 California Lutheran University on Sunday, picking up wins in both singles and doubles. Caltech needed both points from Soohoo in order to win the match and the freshman delivered, pulling out the #6 singles victory in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-2) and teaming with sophomore Zixiao Li (Coppell, Texas / Coppell) to win #3 doubles, 8-4.

Soohoo joins fellow Caltech scholar-athletes Nasser Al-Rayes (Doha, Qatar / American School of Doha), Kate Lewis (San Antonio, Texas / Ronald Reagan), Christopher Bradley (Half Moon Bay, Calif. / Junipero Serra) and Alexandra Bodrova (Russia / Kurchatovskaya School) as Beavers to earn the distinction this season, and along with Al-Rayes one of two Beavers to have earned it twice this year.

Sohoo and the 1-1 Beavers are set to endure a bit of a layoff before they visit Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday, Mar. 4.
