Grant Fosselman didn’t have his best stuff Friday when the Lancers hosted St. Paul in a Del Rey League contest at Arcadia County Park.

But the senior lefty was crafty enough to go 4 2/3 innings and allowing just two unearned runs, while striking out four.

Fosselman, though, allowed five walks and left the game with the bases loaded and a 5-2 lead.

James Barnard came out of the pen with the tying runs on base and his first two pitches were out of the zone.

The junior right-hander showed some grit, and three pitches later, he got Nehemiah Rodriguez to ground out to second and the threat was over.

In the top of the seventh inning, Barnard found himself with the bases loaded and one out and the tying run at the plate.

La Salle skipper Mike Parisi brought in Justin Zuniga from third base, and the senior got the final two outs.

The final coming on a pop out to right by Rodriguez, and the Lancers earned the 6-2 victory over the Swordsmen.

The win gives La Salle two Del Rey League wins in 24 hours, as the Lancers improve to 5-4 overall, and 2-0 in league play.

Ethan Patrick continued his hot hitting.

The Lancers leadoff hitter went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and a walk. Patrick has five hits, three RBIs and two runs scored in the last 24 hours.

Noah Zate and Victor Scalzo had two-RBI doubles in the four-run third inning for La Salle.

Zane Lindeman came off the bench and had an RBI double in the fifth inning.

La Salle will host El Segundo in a Redondo Tournament game Saturday at 11 a.m. before Tuesday’s huge showdown at Bishop Amat.

Quotable:

La Salle coach Mike Parisi: “Our pitching staff has been our mainstay all year. I’m just happy to see our bats come around. Grant’s been our workhorse and has been awesome all year. He kept us in the game and got the ‘W.’ James did a good job and Justin got his second save in two games.”

La Salle infielder Ethan Patrick: “We’ve been playing a lot better the last couple of games. My job at leadoff is to get on and I count on my teammates to get me in. I’m just focusing more and we really feed off each other. We’re doing well together.”

La Salle pitcher Grant Fosselman: “I just had to make pitches when I had to. My teammates had my back. I had to rely on pitches that were working today. They (Barnard and Zuniga) totally picked us up. It’s great to have those guys behind you. (Our schedule) has prepared us well for league.”
