Freshman Miha Valencic (Colleyville, Texas / Grapevine) won his fifth straight match as Caltech men’s tennis fell to a strong University of California, Santa Cruz team on Sunday morning.

Box Score

Valencic dropped just a single game in each set against 6-3 Ryan Dugan, who moved up from his usual #6 singles spot due to Derek Levchenko sitting out with an injury after the Banana Slugs’ doubles sweep. Senior Ramsathwick Pathireddy (Irvine, Calif. / Whitney) took advantage of the lineup shuffles as well, claiming his first win of the season at #6, 6-2, 6-4. Twin Ruthwick Pathireddy (Cerritos, Calif. / Whitney) gave Chad Stone a tough battle at the top spot, but late breaks in both sets proved to be his undoing in a 7-5, 6-4 defeat.

Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers (3-6 overall) host Whitworth University (2-7) in a key regional test between the 12th- and 13th-ranked teams in the West on Tuesday, Mar. 28 at 10 a.m.
