Sophomore Julia Reisler (Plano, Texas / Greenhill) and the Caltech women’s tennis team recorded their first 9-0 sweep of the season against visiting Whitworth University on Tuesday.

Reisler, slotted in at #2 singles, won her match, 6-1, 6-2, the quickest of the team’s six singles players. Usual doubles partner sophomore Kana Moriyama (Redmond, Wash. / Redmond) faced the toughest test of the day in the top singles spot against Whitworth No. 1 Bella Hoyos. Moriyama won the first set 6-0 and worked her way through a back-and-forth second set to win the final match of the day, 7-5.

Prior to winning their singles matches, Reisler and Moriyama teamed up to defeat Hoyos and Paige Rohrbach, 8-6 at #1 doubles. Caltech’s #3 doubles team, consisting of juniors Vinci Chen (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and Erin Wang (Auburn, Calif. / Del Oro), was the first duo off the court, winning their match 8-3.

Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers, now 7-5 overall and 2-5 against nationally ranked opponents, will resume SCIAC play when they host No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (10-3, 3-0 SCIAC) on Saturday, April 8 at 10 a.m.
