Seniors Ruthwick Pathireddy (Cerritos, Calif. / Whitney) and Sathwick Pathireddy (Irvine, Calif. / Whitney) added to their résumé with a big win at first doubles for Caltech Men’s Tennis against No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday.

Ruthwick, the No. 13 singles player in the ITA West Region, along with his brother Sathwick knocked off regionally-ranked No. 3 doubles team Spencer Simonides and Antony Bello in a tightly contested 9-7 match for the Beavers’ lone win of the day against a tough Sagehens squad. The victory should improve the prospects of the Pathireddy brothers making an appearance in tandem in the next set of regional rankings.

The rest of the team, particularly in singles play came within a few games of securing more points for the Beavers. Top singles player Ruthwick dropped a close match to regional No. 18 Graham Maassen (7-6 (7-2), 6-2) while freshman Miha Valencic (Colleyville, Texas / Grapevine) fell in similar fashion (7-6 (7-3), 6-0) at third singles. Fellow freshman Connor Soohoo (Redwood Shores, Calif. / Crystal Springs) won the first set in his fourth singles match, but ultimately sucummbed to Quinn Hirsohn in a super tiebreaker (3-6, 6-3, 10-6).

Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers will look to get back on track when they travel to SCIAC foe Chapman University (1-12, 0-3 SCIAC) on Friday, Apr. 14 for a 4 p.m. bout.
