From Staff Reports

Poly took a trip out to Claremont on Thursday for a nonleague match up with the No. 4 ranked team in the CIF-SS Division 6.

Matt Loomis went six innings and allowed two runs (both unearned) to lead Poly past The Webb Schools, 8-3.

Loomis scattered five hits and struck out three batters.

Sean McTigue homered and went 2 for 4 with a double and drove in three runs.

Poly is now 10-7 overall and 4-1 in Prep League play.

The Panthers will host Flintridge Prep on Tuesday at 3:30.

Quotable:

Poly pitcher Matt Loomis: “Today was one of our best games of the year. We put ourselves in a great position early in the game by jumping on their pitcher for 5 runs in the first inning. We ended up scoring three runs the rest of the game, two of them coming from a home run by Sean McTigue. On the mound, I didn’t have my off-speed working, so I mainly relied on my fastball command to get myself through the game. Overall, we beat a really good team in Webb, and I couldn’t be happier with the way our team is playing heading into May.”
