The Dodgers started their three-games series against the World Champion Chicago Cubs in a big way, halting their three-game win streak with a 4-0 victory.

It was a game where everything went right. Pitcher Alex Wood extended his string of 25.1 scoreless innings and improved to 6-0. Adrian Gonzales awakened from a batting slump and  homered deep to center for two in the sixth inning, and Chris Hatcher retired the Cubs in the eighth and ninth to seal the win.

Chase Utley sent a pitch to deep center field in the third for his second homer in two nights. Corey Seager was  2 for 3 with two runs and a walk.

Before the game, Dodger Manager Dave Roberts said he thought the Dodgers were a better team than the Cubs, and said that the Dodgers would be victorious. I guess he would know.

The Dodgers face the Cubs again tomorrow at 4:15.

Here’s how we blogged it:

Logan Forsyth is at the intersection of 1 and 1. He turns left to 2-2. Swallows strafe the stadium. He pops out. No swallows are injured.

Wilson Contreras, a man with two last names, is at 1-2, 2-2,  a foul tip into the dugout, then he is all about 3-2. He grounds out neatly to first.

Jason Heyward singles up the middle.

Javier Baez is at 1-1, hits one hard at Corey Seager, who can only knock it down. Heyward moves to second.

Addison Russell is at 2-1 and whatnot. That’s 2-2. The count is full. K. The threat has passed. Children can open their eyes once again in this great nation of ours.

Dodgers 0, Cubs 0.

Bottom

Adrian Gonzales (no relation), takes a strike, fouls one off, 1-2 on a wild pitch. He strikes out meekly.
