In a new series of features on our Athletics website, this is the second installment of “Meet the Lancers Athletics Staff.” Monica Tantlinger, a full-time instructor in the Kinesiology, Health & Athletics Division, has served as PCC’s head coach of the softball team the past four seasons and directed the Lancers to 25 victories this year, and the program’s first postseason playoff appearance in 11 years in May. Here is a Q & A with “Coach T” as you get to know a little more about the energetic coach.

What do you do to “recharge your battery?”
I like to be outside, so a BBQ on a patio with the Dodgers on in the background is a perfect recharge for me. However, I will miss Vin Scully’s voice this season terribly. Also listening to music. Music can cleanse the soul.

If you didn’t work in college athletics what would be your career?
I wanted to be in show business. My undergrad was in Communications with an emphasis in “Entertainment Studies” I wanted to be an actress. I have still thought about possibly looking into the local theater and exploring some open auditions.

What are some of your hobbies/interests outside athletics?
I like to cycle. I have a bike that I bought last year and it is so freeing to be able to just get on a bike and go! I also LOVE live music. If there is live music at a local park, festival, or restaurant, I want to be there.

Do you have a hidden talent?
I can do a “body hold” I can basically hold my body in the air balancing on my arms. Kind of like a plank, not a handstand. Ask me if you see me, I will bust it out for you!

What TV shows take up space on your DVR?
I like Game of Thrones, Dexter, Banshee, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and Ink Master-tattoos intrigue me.

Last book you read?
“The Husband’s Secret” I love suspense novels. And “You are a Bada**” a book about harnessing your talents and using them for greatness.

Favorite snack?
Eggs. I love eggs. Eggs for breakfast. Eggs for dinner. But the absolute best, eggs in a tortilla for a breakfast burrito!

If you could take a vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would like to go to Europe. I have heard so many fascinating things, and want to experience them.

Favorite professional/college sports teams?
The Dodgers! I am aching for a World Series ring. Especially because my assistant coach is a Giants fan (LAME! boo, hiss), and she will not allow me to forget how long it has been since a Championship has come to LA (1988).

Most memorable sporting event growing up?
I was at a Dodger game with my Dad. My very first one. Every time a particular player would come up to bat the fans would “booooooooooo!” I couldn’t understand why we were booing our own player. I leaned over and asked my Dad, between bites of a Dodger dog of course, “Dad, why are we booing our own guy?” He replied, “They aren’t booing they are saying Rauuuuuuuul Rauuuuuul, for Raul Mondesi.” I immediately joined in. I will never forget how electric that felt and how my voice and my addition of Rauuuuuul made a difference. It is one of my favorite memories at Dodger Stadium with my Dad.

Favorite quotes?
“Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard”-Tim Notke
and “Boom baby!”
